This could benefit more than 2,500 homes, businesses and farms in the different areas

National Broadband Plan

People are advised to sign up for updates and check their Eircode for eligibility

FIVE villages in County Limerick are set to benefit from the expansion of the National Broadband Plan into their areas.

More than 2,500 homes, businesses and farms near Castleconnell, Cappamore, Anglesboro, Kilbehenny and Cullane near Ballylanders, will have the opportunity to connect to fibre broadband on the NBI network.

This high-speed fibre broadband is included in a Government investment of €84 million for broadband in County Limerick - it’s the biggest investment in rural Ireland since rural electrification.

People within any areas of Castleconnell, Cappamore, Kilbehenny, Anglesboro and Cullane near Ballylanders, are asked to check if they are ready to be connected by checking their Eircode on www.nbi.ie.

As part of the national scheme, works have already been completed in Adare and surrounding areas of Limerick City and more than 5,000 connections have been made so far.

Building works in Newcastle West are also progressing, with more than 4,000 premises there due to be connected by the end of next year.

TJ Malone, Chief Executive Officer, National Broadband Ireland, said: “This will enable those who connect to experience the life-changing benefits of high-speed broadband with minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second.

“Overall, over 15,700 homes, businesses and farms in Co Limerick can now order a high-speed fibre connection to the NBI network.

He added: “We are working hard on the ground to progress other areas of the county through engineering survey, design and construction phases. We are encouraging Limerick residents to visit the NBI website to check their Eircode and sign up for updates.”
