MORE than 30 old buildings across Limerick are set to be given a new lease of life.

Government is allocating more than €309,000 for various projects on historical properties right across the city and county of Limerick.

The money is being given out under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2025.

This exists to support property owners to conserve and enhance our historic buildings and streetscapes, and at the same time preserve and develop traditional building skills.

This year’s grants will be used to repair, restore, and protect historic structures from modest traditional homes to landmark public buildings.

There's a number of notable projects taking place.

The interiors of Southill House at Collins Avenue in Roxboro are to be worked upon with €20,000 in place for this.

One of Limerick's main tourist attractions, the Hunt Museum, is getting the same sum, for work on its roofing.

External walls are being repaired at St Peter and Paul's church in Kilmallock, and there is €20,000 for that.

Roof repairs are to take place at St Joseph's Church in Castleconnell, with €15,000 awarded.

And work on the external walls at St Michael's Church in Limerick city centre will take place at a cost of €20,000.

In addition to the funding provided under this scheme, owners and custodians of properties will themselves commit a sum in some cases.

Elsewhere, eight thatched properties in Limerick are to share in a pot of €45,082.
