A NEW nursing home to serve the wider south Limerick and north Cork area has been offically opened.
Liz Downes, chair of the Older Peoples Council and Charlie McAllister Cork County Age Friendly Ambassador officiated at the official opening of the Charleville Nursing Home.
“We are delighted that Charleville Nursing Home is an age friendly home. The focus on age friendly communities is an inclusive and wide ranging alliance that is an inter agency partnership. The Alliance includes public sector agencies and community organisations like Charleville town which promotes a positive approach to ageing. This includes transport, housing, social protection and of course healthcare. The work of Age Friendly Ireland promotes hearing the voice of the older person and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement model of care also advocates for listening to what ‘matters most’ to the person," said Liz Downes.
Charleville Nursing Home is managed by Mowlam Healthcare, who have 31 facilities across Ireland.
Charleville Nursing Home is a 60 bed purpose built facility.

Chief Executive Officer Mowlam Healthcare Michele McCormack said they were pleased to open Charleville Nursing Home.
"This purpose built facility provides a range of care services to the local community. We work closely with the local Community Services and hospitals in Cork & Limerick to provide Short Term Rehabilation and Long Term care for older people. We are honoured that Charleville Nursing Home is an Age Friendly facility, which gives it a hallmark of age friendly care delivered with every resident, every day. Charleville Nursing Home has been formally recognized by the Institute for Healthcare (IHI) Improvement as a Participant in delivering Age Friendly Care. These are care centres recognized by the IHI as adopting age friendly care practices. Charleville is one of 10 Mowlam nursing homes that have achieved this designation and are the first in Ireland to do so with only 35 residentail care recognized internationally adpting this approach. We see Charleville as part of an age friendly community, supported by Cork City Age Friendly Alliance. Also I would like to sincerely thank our Director of Nursing Catherine Treacy and her dedicated staff for their hard work, commitment and enthusiasm to Charleville Nursing Home," she said.
Director of Nursing Catherine Treacy added: “I am so proud to be part of the Charleville Nursing Home team. It is a modern yet homely building which provides much-needed care for older people and their families in north Cork and Limerick. This is a caring, bright and welcoming facility staffed by a highly trained and compassionate team of people”.
