LIMERICK has been shortlisted for a ‘prestigious’ international award, making it the only Irish nomination.
Limerick City and County Council has been shortlisted for a City Nation Place Award 2024 in the category of Best Communication Strategy - Place Brand.
The Council was shortlisted for its campaign, A Different Kind of Energy. The Limerick Place Brand is the only Irish nomination amongst others, including Costa Rica, Dusseldorf, Scotland, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, Ukraine and Western Cape Province, South Africa.
The City Nation Place Awards celebrate excellence in place branding and marketing, with entries received from over 30 countries across all continents. The jury is composed of international place brand leaders.
This recognition of the Council’s A Different Kind of Energy campaign reflects “the innovative and effective approach to place branding and communication”.

Mayor of Limerick, John Moran says the shortlisting is worthy recognition: “Limerick City and County Council’s nomination highlights its commitment to promoting Limerick as a vibrant and dynamic place to live, work, and visit.
“The Council’s strategic communication efforts have successfully highlighted Limerick’s community spirit, unique cultural heritage and economic opportunities, contributing to its growing international reputation.”
Director general of Limerick Council, Dr Pat Daly, feels Limerick “is punching above its weight”.
He said: “It is particularly noteworthy that Limerick finds itself in the same category as entire countries and much larger metropolitan centres.
“This achievement underscores the power of Limerick’s innovative communication strategy and its ability to compete on a global stage.”
Head of marketing and communications at Limerick Council, Donn O’Sullivan said the nomination is “a testament to the creativity and dedication of the Council’s Marketing and Communications team”.
“We are honoured to be shortlisted for this esteemed award,” Mr O'Sullivan said.
“We [at the Council] work passionately to elevate Limerick’s profile and look forward to continuing our efforts to showcase the best of what our city and county have to offer.”
Limerick Council launched Limerick’s first-ever place brand, “Limerick. Atlantic Edge, European Embrace,” in January 2020 to promote Limerick globally.
The winners of the City Nation Place Awards 2024 will be announced at the City Nation Place Global conference in London in November.
