FIFTH class students from a Limerick city primary school have had their interviewing and recording skills tested and rewarded and have won the very first ‘sports story’ podcast competition.

The competition was a collaboration between the International Rugby Experience and Createschool and the winners were handpicked from a shortlist of 32 podcasts.

The podcast from JFK Primary School - “The First Whistle” is a four-part series covering the olympics, rugby, hurling and soccer.

As the winners, the fifth class students got to participate in an exclusive, in-person workshop at the International Rugby Experience and present and produce a special episode featuring interviews with Munster and Ireland rugby player Craig Casey.

The episode explored Craig’s journey through rugby, from why he started playing the sport and his thoughts on the greatest players of all time, to cherished memories of his first try. The interview also touched on how the Kennedy Cup influenced his decision to pursue rugby, who he prefers to sit with on long-haul flights, and the perennial debate: Messi or Ronaldo?

Stories are central to the International Rugby Experience - stories told by the players about the passion they have for the game, stories of how rugby has impacted politics and stories of grassroots rugby.

You can listen to Craig Casey’s Sports Story podcast from the winning class in JFK here and all of the shortlisted podcasts will feature on The Sports Story Spotify channel in the coming week.
