AN TAOISEACH Simon Harris has held talks with the newly-elected mayor of Limerick John Moran.
The former top government official made history this week becoming Limerick's first directly-elected first citizen.
In a statement, the government information service confirmed the pair had chatted by telephone this Thursday.

"They discussed the historical significance of Limerick being the first place in Ireland to directly elect a mayor with executive powers. Simon Harris congratulated John Moran on winning the election and noted the number of excellent candidates who had put themselves forward for the first contest for the office.
The Taoiseach pledged his support in making the new post work and delivering for the people of Limerick City and County," a spokesperson said.
Mayor Moran gave an overview of his priorities, and both he and the Taoiseach agreed to meet in person in the near future.
