Instituted by Pope Gregory XVI in 1832, the medal is conferred on those who have exhibited long and exceptional service to the Catholic Church, their families and community.
It was originally established as an award for soldiers in the Papal Army.
Five worthy recipients Sacristan Rene Shanahan, Effin, and retired Sacristans Hanna Costello, Kilmallock, and Lily Mulvihill, Ballingaddy, Kilmallock’s ex Choir Mistress Maureen Lynch and Organist Moira Naughton were all bestowed the medal.
