GARDAI are appealing for witnesses after the occupants of a stolen car attempted to steal three more cars across Munster.

A blue Toyota Aqua with a 152 Clare registration, which was stolen in Ennis overnight on April 10, was subsequently spotted by gardai at locations in Tipperary Town and in Limerick city.

According to gardai, having travelled to Tipperary Town at around 4.30pm on April 12, the occupants of the stolen car, who were wearing balaclavas, attempted to steal three other vehicles at separate locations in the town.

"The driver and his co offenders attempted to steal a silver Toyota Aqua which was parked at Rosanna Close. They failed. This car was later seen on the Limerick road in Tipperary Town at 4.45pm. The car stopped outside a supermarket. The occupants got out and attempted to steal a second car. This was a black Toyota Vitz. They were not successful in this regard," said Garda John Finnerty.

"At 5pm the occupants attempted to steal a third car, this was a silver Toyota Aqua. They tried this car at An Duiche in Tipperary Town. Again they were not successful," added Garda Finnerty who is attached to Henry Street garda station in Limerick city where the stolen Toyota Aqua was observed on several occasions in the days after it was stolen.

Attempts to stop the car and apprehend the occupants proved unsuccessful and it was finally abandoned at St. Laurence’s Park in Garryowen, Limerick - around two hours after it was seen in Tipperary Town.

Gardai say the driver of the car put the safety of members of the public and gardai at risk and they are appealing for any witnesses who may have encountered the blue Toyota Aqua car to contact them.
