Old Crescent flag flies proudly at mountain top

THE OLD Crescent RFC flag was proudly unfurled on top of one of the highest mountain tops in the world.

The Rosbrien club’s media officer Paul Donnellan took part in a week-long trek to the summit of Kilimanjaro, and raised more than €7,000 for good causes in the process.

He collected a total of €7,247 for the IRFU Charitable Trust, which exists to help seriously-injured rugby players.

It was at the end of January when Paul reached Uhuru Peak, at the summit of Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa.

He joined 16 other Irish climbers on the adventure, which was organised by Earth’s Edge, an adventure travel operator based in Wicklow.

As delighted as he is with his achievement, Paul says he’s in no hurry to choose his next adventure just yet.

For now, he will remain at sea level watching his beloved Old Crescent!
