THE GENEROSITY of children in Loughill has sparked the installation of four life-saving defibrillator machines across the parish.

The community’s wren boys and girls group decided, following a successful fundraising drive, that they would donate the money they made to providing the machine which helps restore a person’s normal heartbeat.

They unanimously decided to donate the money they had made from their successful hunting of the wren to install a defibrillator and outdoor heater box at Kilteery Pier.

Their kind-hearted actions have had a snowball effect.

After the youngsters made public their kind donation on Facebook, local councillors stepped in to add more money to the project, through the General Municipal Allocation.

This fund is a devolved pot of money, which represents 1% of the local authority budget which is for councillors preferred projects.

Following on from this, the local text alert committee also agreed to fund a further three child adaptable defibrillators and heater box units - one for each of the two national schools, and one outside the Knockdown Arms Bar.

The finance for this came after a drive by the committee to pull in as many of the €10 text alert subscriptions as they could early in the year.
