Limerick councillor joins Independent Ireland party

Councillor John O'Donoghue

COUNCILLOR John O'Donoghue has announced he will run in the Local Elections as part of the Independent Ireland party.

Cllr O'Donoghue has served the Adare/Rahkeale municipal district for four years as an Independent councillor however, he has now joined the political party started by his brother Richard O'Donoghue TD and Michael Collins TD.

Mr O'Donoghue was co-opted onto Limerick City and County Council in 2020 following his brother's election to Dáil Eireann. 

Married with three children, Mr O'Donoghue is a busy farmer/agri contractor and is a strong advocate for the farming community having spent all of his life working in the farming sector.

In his role as a service engineer with a medical company Mr O'Donoghue is in regular contact with front line medical staff and patients and he is also passionate about improving the healthcare system. 

Mr O'Donoghue is a strong advocate for common sense on farming and rural issues, policing and community engagement.

Mr O'Donoghue is a keen GAA fan having played hurling and football in his younger days before coaching at underage level in his local area.

Speaking after his appointment, Mr O'Donoghue said: "I am honored to join Independent Ireland and stand alongside such a strong group of candidates who share my dedication to serving the best interests of our communities.

"Now more than ever, it is imperative that we prioritise the needs of the people, put the people of our local communities first and work collaboratively to build a brighter future for all."

Richard O'Donoghue, General Secretary of Independent Ireland said: "Residents of Adare, Rathkeale and throughout the constituency can rest assured that they have a dedicated Councillor, who will continue to work tirelessly to address their concerns and deliver results for our local area. 

"John has done fantastic work since he took over from me on the council in 2020 and I have no doubt he will continue to deliver for the people of Limerick, I am very hopeful the people will put their trust in him to represent them in the upcoming local elections."
