Opportunist thieves steal personal belongings at UHL

TWO incidents of theft of personal items have been reported at University Hospital Limerick.

A man in his 30s was at the hospital on Thursday, January 25 and he plugged his phone into a socket in a public place to charge it.

Soon after he realised the phone was gone.

The next day a woman in her 30s was also at the hospital at 9am. She left her bag unattended for a moment and in that time her medication, cash and car keys were stolen.

She ran out to check on her car and it too was gone.

Sergeant Ber Leetch, crime prevention officer at Henry Street garda station said: "I often see people charging their phones in public places and this is fine provided you keep your eye on it or ideally the socket you use is next to you.

"Criminals are very quick, they look like you and I, do not give them the opportunity to steal from you."
