Limerick to deploy 'a different kind of energy' this St Patrick's Day

LIMERICK city is set to deploy a "different kind of energy" as part of its St Patrick's Day celebrations in March.

This is the theme for the national day locally, with hopes this year's festival will "electrify" Shannonside.

Mayor Gerald Mitchell said: "From Viking roots to the cosmopolitan present, Limerick's heritage and tradition pulsate from every corner. For this year’s Limerick St. Patrick’s Festival we are inviting the world to witness a vibrant blend of history and modernism, creating 'A Different Kind of Energy' that defines our city and county."

The centrepiece of Limerick's St Patrick's Day events is of course the parade on Sunday, March 17.

A day later, on Monday, March 18 - a Bank Holiday - is the 52nd annual International Band Championships.

Both parades will follow the same route as 2023, starting on O’Connell Street before moving on to Henry Street and ending at Arthur’s Quay Park.

There will also be a number of other colourful parades in towns and villages across rural Limerick.

Additional fringe events surrounding the parade and championship will be announced in the weeks to come.

Council is seeking participants for the Limerick City St Patrick’s Day parade who can now register their interest at www.limerick.ie

Council's festival officer Eugene Crimmins is inviting everyone to be part of the fun.

"To all companies, groups, clubs, and organisations of all sizes, we ask: What is your Limerick? What do you want people to know about your county? Help us showcase ‘Limerick: A Different Kind of Energy.’ Join us in experiencing Limerick's unique energy and show support for our green initiatives," he said.
