Slash hooks, machetes, golf clubs and petrol bombs seized in town near Limerick border
THREE men have been charged after a number of weapons were seized as part of ongoing investigations into violent disorder incidents near the Limerick and Cork border.
The men were charged and appeared before Midleton District Court this Thursday afternoon.
It comes after gardaí conducted a search and arrest operation in Charleville, County Cork earlier in the day.
Seven residential properties in the Charleville area were searched in the course of the operation, which resulted in the seizure of quantities of cannabis and the confiscation of 30 implements, including slash hooks, machetes, golf clubs, and the recovery of two suspected petrol bombs.
A garda spokesperson confirmed that four individuals, all male ranging in age from 18-40 years, were arrested and detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Garda Stations in north Cork.
“The operation was conducted by gardaí in North Cork with assistance from Cork County Drugs Units, Mallow District Crime Unit, ASU, Dog Unit, Divisional Search team and Revenue Customs personnel,” the spokesperson added.
The operation came as a result of ongoing investigations into violent disorder incidents and related criminal activities that occurred in Charleville on December 16, 2023, and January 8, 2024.
Investigations are ongoing.
