The scene of the fatal hit-and-run in Casteltroy
A TEENAGER arrested on Sunday in relation to the fatal hit-and-run of award-winning University of Limerick journalism student Joe Drennan has been released.
A garda spokesperson said this Monday morning: "The man in his late teens, arrested in relation to the fatal road traffic collision on the Dublin Road in Castletroy, Co Limerick, on October 13, 2023, which resulted in the death of a man in his 20s, has been released without charge."
He had been detained under Section 42 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1999, at a garda station in Limerick city.
A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Mr Drennan was waiting for a bus at the time of the incident at approximately 9.50pm after finishing a shift in the nearby La Cucina restaurant. The 21-year-old from Knocknagad, Mountrath, Co Laois, was a fourth-year UL journalism student and Limerick Voice’s editor-in-chief.
To honor a month since the passing of Mr Drennan, La Cucina will host a celebration of their recently deceased employee's life this Monday, November 13 - exactly a month since his passing.
Investigations are ongoing.
