BREAKING: Man arrested over fatal hit-and-run of University of Limerick student

GARDAI have arrested a man this Sunday in relation to the fatal hit-and-run of award-winning University of Limerick journalism student, Joe Drennan.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí have today arrested a man in relation to the fatal road traffic collision on the Dublin Road in Castletroy, Co Limerick, on October 13, 2023, which resulted in the death of a man in his 20s.
 
"The man aged in his late teens, is currently detained under Section 42 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1999, at a garda station in Limerick city."

Mr Drennan was waiting for a bus at the time of the incident at approximately 9.50pm after finishing a shift in the nearby La Cucina restaurant.

The 21-year-old from Knocknagad, Mountrath, Co Laois, was a fourth-year UL Journalism student.

Investigations are ongoing.
