Traffic backlog as truck hits bridge in Limerick

Truck stuck on the bridge off the Kilmallock Road roundabout

THERE are reports of long traffic tailbacks after a truck hit a bridge in Limerick city this Wednesday morning.

The lorry struck the railway bridge off the Kilmallock Road roundabout after 10am. Services between Limerick Junction and Colbert station run on that rail line. It is the main route (R512) from the city out to Ballyneety, Bruff and onto Kilmallock.

The lane in the direction of Bruff remains blocked and it is not known how long it will take for the truck to be cleared. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and take an alternative route if possible.

The incident has added to traffic delays due to the dangerous driving conditions during Storm Agnes.

A status yellow wind warning is place for all of Munster until midnight as people are being warned of fallen trees and difficult driving conditions.
