A HISTORICAL walking tour of Limerick city's southside is to take place this weekend.
Limerick Historical Society, will hold its last outing of the summer season on Sunday, September 24.
Led by South Circular Road historian Tony Browne, the tour gets under way at 2:30pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Childers Road.
A free event, it will focus on the history of the area of Ballinacurra Weston and the building of the church itself.
From there, the tour goes to Rosbrien Road to the former site of Molloy’s Mill.
After this, a background to the history of Fearan-na-Guilleagh, now known as Rosbrien graveyard will be given.
A very old cemetery, it has not been used since the 1860s, Tony said.
“That townland is the old name for the area before Weston ever came about,” the historian explained.
The site of St Dominic’s Well is next on the agenda.
Used up to the 1960s, it has sadly since been vandalised.
Then, a small body of water called Sandy will be visited before the Soldiers’ Houses at Rosbrien Road rounds things off. For more information, call 061-228071.
