THE OCCUPANTS of a car involved in a road traffic collision, which resulted in a man and a woman being rushed to hospital, fled the scene on foot, Limerick Live has learned.
A garda spokesperson confirmed they are investigating a two-vehicle road traffic collision, which occurred at around 8.30pm on Tuesday, August 29 on the Ballysimon Road (R527) in Limerick city.
"A man and woman, both aged in their 20s, were taken to University Hospital Limerick to be treated for injuries which are believed to be non-life threatening," said a garda spokesperson.
Locals came to the injured parties' aid while they waited for emergency services to arrive. Gardai, Limerick Fire and Rescue Service and paramedics with the National Ambulance Service all rushed to the scene.
It is understood a number of occupants in the other vehicle fled the scene on foot. This car is the subject of garda technical analysis.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.
"Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), and were travelling in the area between 8.15pm and 8.45pm, are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact Roxboro garda station on (061) 214340, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station," said the garda spokesperson.
The section of the Ballysimon Road has since reopened and investigations are ongoing.
