A PARADE for emergency service operators to thank the public for their support will take place in Limerick.

Motorists are advised of delays on Saturday, September 2 in the city as the National Services Day parades kick off at 2pm.

The family-friendly day will start at 2pm from Barrington Street, make its way to The Crescent – Lower Mallow Street – Henry Street – Arthur’s Quay – and finish over Matthew Bridge.

Last year’s parades saw fantastic turnouts, and those likely to attend are: An Garda Siochána, Limerick Fire & Rescue, Limerick Suicide Watch, Civil Defence and much, much more.

Limerick City & County Council and the gardaí would like to advise motorists and road users that positive traffic control will operate from 1pm - 3pm.

Local diversions will be in place via the Dock Road, Shannon Bridge, Island Road and Thomond Bridge. Areas affected are: Assembly Point Pery Square, Barrington Street, Lower Mallow Street,, Henry Street, Liddy Street, Honan’s Quay, Arthurs Quay, Francis Street, Rutland Street, Matthew’s Bridge, Merchant’s Quay, Bridge Street and Athlunkard Street.

The day gives our emergency services a platform, through a series of events, to thank the public for their support and assistance. Other events will be taking place nationally.
