Eric O’Neill demonstrating traditional and modern forging skills in advance of last year's National Heritage Week
NATIONAL Heritage Week returns once again this year with an assortment of events in Limerick dedicated to Ireland’s cultural, built and national heritage.
Each year Limerick community organisations participate in Heritage Week by organising events throughout the city and county.
This year National Heritage Week will take place from Saturday August 12 to Sunday August 20.
It brings together volunteers, community groups and heritage enthusiasts to share their experience, knowledge, culture and practices.
This year’s theme invites you to explore the traditions and practices, knowledge and skills passed down through generations.
Some of the events expected throughout the week include the Art of Writing at the Hunt Museum in Limerick city. This event will allow you to find out more about the ancient art of calligraphy. Learn to make a pen from a feather and how to write as they would have in Medieval Europe.
Lough Gur Visitors’ Centre will be hosting a workshop on the native bumblebee. This workshop is aimed at children between the ages of six and ten.
