ACTIVE Disability Ireland has announced the appointment of Limerick's Brian O’Callaghan as the organisation’s new chairperson.
Brian brings a wealth of experience in the areas of disability and inclusion to his new role at the national organisation.
With a background in business ownership and management, Brian has also dedicated numerous years to volunteering for organisations promoting inclusion and diversity in sport.
He has held management positions for Special Olympics Ireland at World Games in Los Angeles 2015, Abu Dhabi 2019, and Berlin 2023. Brian was also on the Games Organising Committee for Irish Games in Limerick 2014 and Dublin 2018.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Brian is also known by many as the producer of his son Pádraig's motivational podcast – The Paudcast - which garnered worldwide acclaim promoting the mantra that ‘disability does not mean inability’, and both are huge advocates of promoting healthy, active lifestyles. Brian lives with wife Marie and Pádraig in Knockainey.
Speaking about his appointment, Brian said: "I am truly honoured to have been appointed Chairperson of such a highly skilled board and I am excited to carry on the excellent work already underway in achieving and exceeding our ambitions as outlined in our 2027 strategy document.
"I particularly look forward to working with all existing corporate partners, whilst also diversifying and bringing new corporate partners on the shared journey, creating opportunities to lead healthy, active lifestyles for all, regardless of ability or disability.”
Brian joins the organisation following the recent launch of its new five-year strategy and rebrand to Active Disability Ireland.
Under the new name, the organisation, which was established 15 years ago remains committed to helping to build a more inclusive society to empower, encourage and support people with disabilities to be more active with whom they want, when they want and where they want.
Commenting on Brian’s appointment, outgoing chairperson, Jon Morgan said he was delighted to pass the baton to Brian as the new chairperson of Active Disability Ireland during this new and exciting chapter for the organisation.
"Brian's business acumen combined with his passion for inclusion and diversity will be invaluable as he leads the board and works closely with the management team to implement Active Disability Ireland's ambitious plans for the future. I wish Brian the very best and look forward to watching the organisation develop over the coming years as Active Disability Ireland," said Mr Morgan.
