WEARING a beautiful emerald dress and with the green of Limerick flowing through her veins, Róisín Wiley was crowned the New York Rose of Tralee.
Róisín, who is connected to Limerick through her parents Eddie Wiley, originally from Kilmallock, and her mum, Majella, originally from Templeglantine has always felt a big connection to her heritage as they travel back almost every year to be with their extended family in Limerick.
It has always been a dream of Róisín’s to one day become a Rose.
“As Róisín means little rose ás Gaeilge it was always a joke in my family that one day I would run.
“I am so excited to go back and represent in Tralee but it hasn't hit me yet,” she said this Tuesday from the States.
A big Limerick hurling fan, Eddie Wiley, Chairman of Club Limerick New York travels home for the games as often as he can. “I was home for the Munster final and we will be back again for the All-Ireland final if we can get in it. I try to get back to half of them.”

The club organises gatherings and raises money for the hurling community. “The club began in 2018 when Limerick won the All-Ireland and it has been very successful as we are in our fifth year. We send them back a lot of money every year to help out and do our bit.”
And what about the newly-crowned New York Rose, does she have a favourite player?
“Róisín’s favourite player would be Seán Finn and my son John would prefer Gearóid Hegarty as he likes the way he plays.”
Róisín will represent New York at this year's International Rose of Tralee Festival in August where she will be joined by 31 other Roses, from which one will be crowned the Rose of Tralee for 2023.
