MET Éireann is warning of flash flooding and potential power outages in Limerick and across the country this Tuesday afternoon and evening.

The forecaster has issued a status orange thunderstorm and rain warning for Ireland - having upgraded a status yellow warning which issued earlier on Tuesday.

The status orange warning, which came into effect shortly after 1pm, will remain in place until 6pm.

Met Éireann says possible impacts during the bad weather include flash flooding, very difficult travelling conditions with reduced visibility and power outages.

Motorists are being advised not to make any unnecessary journeys and to exercise caution if traveling while the warning is in effect
