Investigations underway following large fire at Limerick petrol station

The incident occurred on Friday

GARDAI have confirmed investigations are ongoing following a fire at a petrol station in a county Limerick town on Friday. 

Emergency services and gardaí attended the scene of a fire at Mullane’s petrol station in Knockdown, between Athea and Glin.

No persons were injured during the incident.

“A lot of damage was done to the property. Gardaí assisted the fire services who extinguished the fire,” a spokesperson for the gardaí told Limerick Live.

Three units of Limerick Fire and Rescue Service from across the county, attended the incident after being called to the scene at 4:15pm.

According to a spokesperson for Limerick Fire and Rescue Service, several units from Newcastle West, Rathkeale and Abbeyfeale were in attendance. The Newcastle West unit left the scene at 9:03pm. 

Photos and videos of the fire widely circulated on social media. 

Investigations are ongoing.
