Munster and Ireland rugby star celebrates magical wedding in Spanish sunshine

MUNSTER and Ireland rugby player Joey Carbery is celebrating his wedding to the love of his life Robyn Flanagan in glorious Spanish sunshine surrounded by some of the most well-known names in Irish rugby.

The out-half and the marketing graduate toasted their future in front of family and friends who had jetted out to Marbella earlier in the week for the special day.

The couple formally married on May 9, in Dublin, but waited until June 1 to celebrate the union. Joey proposed to Robyn on a trip to New York, getting down on one knee in Central Park in January 2022. 

The two were in a long-term relationship of six years prior to getting engaged.

Plenty of famous faces are enjoying the Spanish festivities, with some sharing snaps online including Rory Scannell and his fiancée Aisling Colwell, as well as Jeremy Loughman, and Tadhg Beirne and his wife, Harriet - who wed last August.

The couple and friends arrived in Marbella, Spain earlier this week, as they prepared for their “wedding, part 2” in style, according to Robyn’s sibling, Ben. 

Two days of celebrations took place this Thursday and this Friday, June 1 and June 2. The first day kicked off in Cádiz, while the celebrations today are centered at a venue in Marbella.

Sharing a few snaps of their official ceremony on social media last month, Joey’s wife, Robyn said: “A dream day. Special and intimate. So looking forward to celebrating with our friends and family soon” while Joey made a post of his own, commenting “Step one: complete”. 

Joey made his Munster debut in 2018, previously playing with Leinster.  Robyn, who is a marketing graduate from Technological University Dublin, lived in Paris for a year and has a keen interest in fashion. 

Love is in the air for another of Joey’s teammates, Limerick native Conor Murray who is to marry fiancée Joanna Cooper early next week. 

Some guests at Joey and Robyn's wedding are preparing to leave the Spanish sun for some equally sunny scenes in Portugal where the Patrickswell man and his model bride Joanna will become husband and wife.

Those who are reportedly en route are Munster stars Craig Casey, captain Peter O'Mahony, RG Snyman and Dave Kilcoyne, with their respective partners.
