THOUSANDS of people across Limerick were up before dawn this Saturday to participate in the annual Darkness into Light event.
Early-morning walks took place at four locations across the city and county as part of the initiative to raise funds for Pieta House.
The largest event locally began shortly before 4.30am at the TUS Moylish Campus while walks also took place at Pallasgreen, Kilmallock, Kildimo and Newcastle West.
Deputy Mayor of Limerick city and county, Cllr Kieran O'Hanlon, who participated in the Limerick city event said it was great to see "the number of young people getting out of bed so early".
Each of the walks were timed to ensure they ended as sunrise was beginning.
