Pregnant woman kicks wrong man in Limerick incident

A LIMERICK WOMAN intending to kick her partner, kicked a different man after her partner dodged the kick, Newcastle West Court heard.
Amanda Casey, aged 36, of Arra View, Newcastle West pleaded guilty to section 2 assault at Cois na Feile, Clash Road, Abbeyfeale on May 16, 2021.
Inspector Gearoid Thompson, prosecuting, said there was “an altercation of sorts” at the address on the date in question.
“There was an argument. There was another female present who is not before the court.
“Whatever arose the injured party was kicked by Ms Casey. He knew Ms Casey. There were no injuries caused. He bears no ill will against Ms Casey,” said Insp Thompson, who added that Ms Casey has 10 previous convictions including for violent disorder, possession of a knife, possession of drugs and public order offences.
Ted McCarthy, solicitor for Ms Casey, said his client is a mum of four children and was pregnant on the date in question.
“There had been to-ing and fro-ing. I won’t go into it but her difficulty on the day was with her partner.
“He ran out of the house. She followed him and drew a kick but kicked the injured party in error. She apologises for losing her temper,” said Mr McCarthy.
The solicitor said Ms Casey’s focus was on her partner and Mr McCarthy described it as a “domestic explosion”.
“He had been offside. She was venting her annoyance at that.
“He dodged the kick. The man who got the kick bears her no ill will,” said Mr McCarthy.
Judge Carol Anne Coolican asked Insp Thompson if Ms Casey has come to garda attention since the incident in 2021. “No,” said Insp Thompson.
Judge Coolican said “whatever went on it” the injured party doesn’t bear any ill will against Ms Casey and it happened two years ago.
The judge applied the Probation Act.
