Limerick student wins at Engineering Showcase event

A STUDENT from Hazelwood College in Dromcollogher is celebrating after flying away with a top prize at an engineering showcase.

Conor Donegan was a local winner at the Explore Engineering event which took place in Shannon Airport.

He won a touchscreen computer for his efforts.

The event drew more than 1,700 students from across the region and was designed to give an insight into the career opportunities in the engineering sector.

It’s goal was to the increase the quality and quantity of engineering talent available in the region.

To this end, representatives of a high number of blue-chip companies from across Limerick and the wider Mid-West were in attendance.

Sarah Noonan, guidance counsellor with Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board said: “We would like to thank everyone who attended and took part in the competition and helped the make the showcase event such a success.”

Conor entered in a competition open to all attendees, with winners selected at random.

A number of runners up won a selection of wireless headphones and speakers.

The showcase will likely take place again next March.
