Annual St Patrick's Day races return to Limerick village

Annual St Patrick's Day races return to Limerick

Joshua, Dara and dad Micheal Curtin train for race

THE SIXTH annual St Patrick’s Day races will take place in Croom this March 17, where fun family activities will be on in the morning, to accommodate other events later in the day.

A 10km timed race will take place, the first since 2019, in the county Limerick town starting at Croom Town Park at 9am.

The route will take runners through the Riverside Walk, as well as showing off views of heritage sites in the area, such as Tory Hill House.

A 5km family fun run/walk will follow, with T-shirts and medals awarded upon completion and complimentary refreshments after the race.

Family tickets are available to include up to three children, as well as individual child or adult tickets for either the 10km or 5km races. If there are tickets left over, they will be sold on the day but the public can bag them cheaper online.

Patricia Ryan, CEO of Croom Community Development Association (CCDA) said that this race is a great way to get the Bank Holiday started.

“This is a community event and will incorporate a cup of tea after the race,” she said.

“We will be delighted to welcome those from outside the parish to join us for refreshments after the race.

“The early start leaves the day free to get in the parades around the county.”

The race is sponsored by local shop Broderick’s Spar, located in Croom’s Main Street.

Since 1988 Croom Community Development Association has supported the development of Croom.
