Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell both nominated for Academy Awards
THE LIMERICK costume designer who was behind the clothing for the Oscar nominated Banshees of Inisherin has been nominated for an Irish Film and Television Academy Award.
Eimer Ní Mhaoldomhnaigh studied in LSAD and the hugely successful designer now resides in Meath.
Set on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland, the film tells a story of two best friends who have fallen out.
Colm (Brendan Gleeson) no longer wants to be friends with Pádraic (Colm Farrell) but efforts of a reconciliation have detrimental consequences.
The scenes are rugged and dreary and the characters are dressed in woolen jumpers, cardigans and dark layers to match the mood of the film while encapsulating the wild west.
Earlier this year Eimer spoke to the Limerick Leader following the Oscar nominations being revealed and shared what it was like to work with the A-list Irish actors: “They’re great. They understand what I’m trying to do and what I’m trying to contribute and help them in some way to develop and find the character as well and they’re very appreciative of what we do and they are just gentlemen and they’re just fantastic”.
Eimer also gave insight into her work on the set of the multi award winning Martin McDonagh movie.
“I’ve spent a lot of time with Colin and Brendan (Gleeson), we have initial discussions about the costumes and then we’ve first fittings and second fittings and final fittings, we are on set every day, making sure everything is okay, it's very collaborative,” she added.
The Banshees of Inisherin also stars Jon Kenny and Pat Shortt and features mirrors from Tom Collins, a sign maker in Limerick City and takes a total of 11 nods at this year's Irish Film and Television Awards.
Also with Limerick connections, The Ghost of Richard Harris is nominated for the George Morrison Feature Documentary Award, Róise & Frank has received six nominations across film categories and stars Limerick's Cillian Ó'Gairbhí.
It’s nominated for 11 categories and the 20th Anniversary IFTA Awards Ceremony, hosted by Deirdre O’Kane, will take place on Sunday, May 7 at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre.
