AFTER OVER six decades of musical talent and dedication to the community, Limerick’s famous CBS Pipe Band has marked its 60th anniversary on a high note.

The band was honoured with a mayoral reception and received a merit of dedication for their musical talents and service they brought to Limerick city and county.

While the ages of band members range from between 10 - 70, the CBS Pipe Band has one long lasting member in particular, who has stayed with them for more than 55 years.

Barry Carey, now a band director and tutor, joined the CBS Pipe Band when he was just 10 years old in 1965. Having started off playing the snare drum, Barry now has three generations of his family involved with the musical group and has dedicated 58 years of his life to it.

Currently, with around 35 members on their books, the CBS Pipe Band will be gearing up for their biggest showcases of the year which are happening shortly: St Patrick’s Day events.

“As part of our celebrations to mark our 60th anniversary, the band will be performing at the Newport St Patrick’s Day parade on Saturday, March 11, and the Limerick City and Adare parades on St Patrick's Day.

“We will also be performing in Limerick's annual International Band Competition on March 19,” said Eimear Purcell, Public Relations Officer for CBS Pipe Band.

On a global scale, the band has performed in many European countries and the USA.
