INFORMATION is being sought by gardai after a small amount of money was stolen from a church in County Limerick earlier this month.

The alarm was raised after the caretaker at St John the Baptist Church in Athlacca was alerted to the theft.

According to gardai, they opened the church at 8am on Wednesday, February 15 and realised later that day that an attempt had been made to enter the office.

"She returned at 7.30pm to close the church and she discovered that a door to the back office had been damaged in an attempt to gain access to the office but the criminal did not succeed. She then discovered that a coin box on the candle stand had been damaged and a small sum of money taken," said divisional crime prevention office Sergeant Ber Leetch.

Gardai in Bruff are investigating and while they have CCTV, they would appreciate the help of anybody who may have seen
unusual activity around the church on the day of the theft.

They can be contacted at (061) 382940.
