Dermot Kennedy is coming to Limerick next summer
POPSTAR Dermot Kennedy says he's determined to do something very special when he brings his Sonder tour to Limerick for three nights this summer.
Thomond Park has seen massive international stars such as Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, P!nk and Ed Sheeran make their mark on the hallowed grounds and the Electric Picnic headliner feels the pressure to put on just as memorable Limerick gigs.
"I don't want to be somebody who can sell that amount of tickets, but then puts on a show that isn't on par with those shows. I'm very determined to do something very special and I think as well, even though I make music that's kind of acoustic, I think people who haven't seen a show before will potentially be surprised that there's going to be seven or eight of us on stage, like a huge show. I want to do something special,” he said.
While Dublin born and bred, the Power Over Me hitmaker felt it was important to take his show outside of the capital.
“I remember last year when we were planning these shows, it was that thing of you could do another Dublin show or you could do something somewhere else. And I was just like, well, at this point, if we do a Dublin show and it sells out like another Dublin show, it's only going to be people from other places traveling up to Dublin. So I was like, let's do Thomond. It's pretty nice, “ he shared on Spin South West.
The 31-year-old has spent time in and around Limerick as his mother hails from Parteen and while rumours circulated in recent weeks of an impromptu busking session on Thomas Street, the award winning singer had to break the news to fans online.
"Please don’t waste your time, as I’m up in Dublin for some downtime. Sorry for any disappointment caused by whoever did that.
“On a brighter note, I can’t wait to play for you at Thomond next summer!!!,” he shared on Instagram to his almost 900,000 followers.
Dermot Kennedy plays two sold out gigs in Thomond Park on July 7 and 8 with some remaining tickets for July 9, available via Ticketmaster.
