The new heart of Adare: James Collins, Manor Fields chairperson and guests of honour Mary Flynn and Mayor of Limerick Cllr Francis Foley at the official opening
THE people of Adare gathered for the official opening of the pavilion at The Manor Fields.
The 25-acre community-owned recreational amenity site has been transformed into an all-age, all-ability recreational facility comprising an access road and car park; an award-winning all-ability playground, a full-size floodlit Astro pitch (FIFA, GAA, IRB certified) and walking paths; state-of-the-art Pavilion which is home to a number of indoor meeting and activity spaces, a suite of changing rooms and remote working hub; and most recently, an active generation physiotherapy trail which is the first of its kind in Ireland.
Patrick O’Donovan represented Minister Heather Humphreys whose department allocated almost €1.1million to the project to date.
“A fantastic amenity in the centre of the county benefitting so many communities across the County and a great example of local rural and community development,” he shared on social media.
The event also marked the end of the Walk 4 Wellness campaign and all children that took part were presented with a certificate on completion of the challenge.
Adare’s community and voluntary groups, sporting organisations, churches, business owners and residents collectively committed to a challenge, with local schools and their pupils to walk 15 minutes per day per person, 13 laps of the Manor Fields walking track per week, per person, or their own personal target.
Special guests also included the Liam McCarthy and Sam Magure trophies as well as the Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Francis Foley.
The land was donated to the community by the Kane Family in 2007, the previous owners of Adare Manor.
