THERE is a possibility of two multi-purpose community centres opening in the Ballycummin district according to a feasibility study published by Limerick City and County Council, there.
The area, made up of Raheen, Dooradoyle and Mungret has been identified by local councillor Daniel Butler as being in need of these added amenities to serve the growing population.
“Growing up and living here I know the real need for this community centre, but this report now confirms that it is official for us to be able to move forward," said the former mayor.
The study describes Mungret as an older settlement with a functioning community council and clear boundary, but Dooradoyle and Raheen are more “recent urban developments.”
The recommendation is made to examine the provision of separate facilities for the two communities: Mungret and Dooradoyle/Raheen.
The study, compiled by consultants Paul O’Raw and Dr Shane O’Sullivan, sets out data from surveys completed by the local public last year, relating to population, age, community activities and where services are lacking, among other factors.
The study suggests the centres will be adaptable to serve many uses.
