Limerick dealership drives off with top EV award

Award winners: Jack Tiernan, Jeannie O'Malley, Pat Hanley and Michael Murphy holding the Pat Tiernan Motors awards from ZEVI

A CAR dealership in Limerick city has won a national award which recognises them as specialists in Electric Vehicles (EVs).

Electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid cars accounted for 41% of all newly-registered vehicles in Ireland last year, with a hopeful year of increased sales in Limerick and across the country in 2023.

Pat Tiernan Motors Ltd, a Nissan Ireland retailer which is located in Delta Retail Park on the Ballysimon Road was crowned winner of the latest Zero Emissions Vehicles Ireland (ZEVI’s) EV Dealership of the Year Award for this region.

Welcoming the award, Jeannie O’Malley, General Manager of Pat Tiernan Motors Ltd, said: “We’re delighted to receive this award and recognition from ZEVI and the SEAI. We aspire to deliver a high level of knowledge and sales experience for consumers when purchasing an electric vehicle.”

Ms O'Malley says they awards are important as they recognise the efforts of dealerships and staff across the country and industry to encourage the uptake of EVs in Ireland.

In its second year running, ZEVI’s EV Dealership of the Year Awards had 124 car dealerships enter over 24 counties and the awards are administered by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI).

ZEVI is a Department of Transport office which dedicates itself to the transition of Ireland’s motorists to electric vehicles.

Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan commented: “We saw record sales of EVs in Ireland last year - It’s an exciting time to be working in this growing area. “As the sales of EVs continue to grow, it is the award winners of today who are setting the
standards and demonstrating the expertise needed in this industry in future.”

While there were 24 winners in each county, these will be shortlisted for regional awards and the four regional winners will be entered into the overall national awards at the SEAI Energy Show taking place in the RDS, Dublin on March 30, 2023.
