ABARTA Heritage and the UCD School of Archaeology will launch the Archaeology of the Irish Revolution in East Limerick at an event in Kilmallock this week.

Abarta Heritage is an award-winning Tipperary-based company helping to communicate Ireland’s story to visitors and helping people take an active role in researching, protecting and presenting their local heritage.

The event will take place n the Deebert House Hotel, Kilmallock, this Wednesday, January 25 at 7pm.

This project aims to map and record the surviving sites, landscapes and family memorabilia of the 1917-1923 period in East Limerick with help from  the public.

Between 1917 and 1923, Ireland went through a tumultuous period which saw the War of Independence, the signing of the Anglo-Irish Treaty and the Civil War.

Stories, memories, photographs and objects from this time have been passed down through generations of the local community.

The UCD School of Archaeology and Abarta Heritage are keen to preserve this information for future generations.

Guest speakers at the launch event will discuss the work which has been done so far and how the community can get involved.

They will also be launch the Archaeology of the Irish Revolution in East Limerick website, and there will be a chance for members of the community to share any memories, photographs or any other objects connected to the stories of the revolution and the East Limerick Brigade.

The project is being undertaken by the UCD School of Archaeology in collaboration with Abarta Heritage and the Landscapes of Revolution project through the Irish Research Council COALESCE funds.
