Gardai treat major fire on Limerick farm as arson

GARDAI have upgraded the investigation into a major fire on a County Limerick farm on Saturday evening.

Officers are now treating the blaze in a farm shed located on the outskirts of Kilmallock as arson.

A garda spokesperson confirmed to Limerick Live this Monday they are investigating a suspected criminal damage incident by fire, which occurred at a premises in Kilmallock on Saturday, January 21 at approximately 8.30pm.

"No injuries were reported. There are no arrests at this time. Investigations are ongoing," said a garda spokesperson.

It is understood that if firefighters suspect the cause of a fire is suspicious they contact gardai and a forensic examination is carried out by specialist officers.

Six appliances from Kilmallock, Charleville and Cappamore rushed to the site of the blaze on the outskirts of Kilmallock after receiving the report at 8.39pm on Saturday evening.  

They tackled the fire, which engulfed a farm shed, through the night and into the morning. There were no cattle in the shed at the time.
