The incident happened at a business premises in the city

A WOMAN was arrested after gardai responded to reports that a business premises in Limerick had been ransacked by an intruder.

Gardai say the incident should act as a warning and a reminder to business owners to thoroughly check their premises before locking up at night.

In the incident, which is being highlighted to create awareness, a lady arrived to her business premises in the city to find it had been ransacked.

"She heard a noise so fearing for her safety, she went outside to ring gardai. As she was on the phone, she observed a female leave her business premises with several items belonging to business," said divisional crime prevention officer Sergeant Ber Leetch.

The owner followed the suspected thief at a safe distance until gardai arrived and she was then arrested.

"The business owner believes it is possible that the thief may have been locked inside the premises overnight," explained Sgt Leetch.
