LAST year was a record-breaking year for the Limerick Leader and its website as millions of people logged on from across the globe to read the latest news, sport and information from Limerick.
During 2022, the award-winning website, www.limericklive.ie, attracted more than 53 million page views with a significant number of users accessing the site from countries such as the UK, USA, Spain, Canada, France and Australia.
The figures, the highest for any year, ensured Limerick Live continues to be one of the leading websites for any regional newspaper in Ireland.
From celebrity-related news to planning stories and weather updates, all walks of life and events (big and small) featured on our website during 2022.
The announcement by the former Limerick TD Tom Neville and his actress wife Jenny Dixon that they were expecting twins was one of the most-viewed stories of last year as was the success of Limerick student Luke Nicholas who achieved an incredible nine H1 grades in his Leaving Certificate.
July of last year was a particularly busy month as the Limerick Leader / Limerick Live team decamped to Adare Manor to provide comprehensive coverage of the JP McManus Pro-Am. Later that month, we were at Croke Park and TUS Gaelic Grounds to report on the Limerick hurlers’ All-Ireland success and the reaction of supporters.
From video interviews with stars such as Bill Murray, John Terry, Jamie Dornan and Westlife to the All-Ireland homecoming celebrations at TUS Gaelic Grounds, Limerick Live had it all in July – attracting more than six million page views in the process.
We were outside Thomond Park when superstar Ed Sheeran took to the stage in May and we were at the finishing line as the competitors completed the first Regeneron Great Limerick Run to be staged in the city since 2019. In September, we were the first to reveal that Hollywood A-lister Russell Crowe had visited his favourite pub in Limerick city.
Throughout the year, we reported on the stories that mattered to communities across Limerick – from the Cappamore Show to the return of Riverfest following its Covid-enforced hiatus.
The return of in-person parades on St Patrick’s Day was another highlight of 2022 as the Limerick Leader / Limerick Live provided the most-comprehensive coverage with reporters and photographers attending every parade across the city and county.
As Limerick re-opened during the first quarter of last year following the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions, our photographers attended numerous events and gatherings with readers showing a keen interest in our picture galleries with our weekly ‘Throwback Thursday’ and ‘Out & About’ slideshows have quickly become an established feature of the week for many people.
As expected, galleries featuring photographs from the JP McManus Pro-Am and the Limerick hurlers’ celebration banquet in Dublin were among the most-viewed stories published on Limerick Live during 2022.
The Limerick Leader / Limerick Live’s continuing coverage of the courts and local council meetings featured prominently on our website throughout the year as did our reporting of the overcrowding crisis at University Hospital Limerick.
From weather warnings to traffic updates and breaking news, Limerick Live continues to be updated regularly every day throughout the year.
