A MEDICAL technology firm co-founded by a Ballyclough woman has developed a groundbreaking new product which provides pictures of internal body parts.
Tympany Medical, based in Galway has introduced its new technology, named Solascope, with the hope it will be able to help more than 20 million people undergoing medical procedures each year.
It’s an endoscope - an instrument which can be introduced inside the body to capture shots, and identify problems.

The firm says its product has been developed with “minimal waste” and “optimum sterility and safety to benefit patients, surgeons and environment.”
Dr McGloughlin’s successor as chief executive Michael Gilmore said: “Our solution offers better visibility, improved ergonomics for surgeons, and more sustainable practice. We’re not just improving procedures, we're reshaping what modern surgical tools should be.”
Last year, Tympany appointed Charlie Wilhelm, the former chief operating officer of endoscopy giant Karl Storz USA, as the chairperson of its board.
He brings with him 30 years of experience in endoscopy.
Tympany says its new product enables shorter, less invasive surgical procedures, reducing recovery time for patients and enhancing surgical efficiency for medical teams.
Tympany Medical employs 15 staff.
It’s bid for €600,000 is being put in place to allow the company to scale up even further.
It’s hoped it will allow the product to come to market sooner.
