Limerick senior footballers switch attention to Tailteann Cup

THE LIMERICK senior footballers are set to discover their Tailteann Cup opponents this week. The Tailteann Cup draw will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30pm and can be watched live on GAA.ie and the GAA’s YouTube channel.

Limerick are second seeds alongside Sligo, Laois and Wexford. 

Seed 1: Kildare, Offaly, Westmeath Fermanagh

Seed 2: Sligo, Laois, Limerick, Wexford

Seed 3: Antrim, Leitrim, Wicklow, Carlow

Seed 4: Tipperary, Longford, London, Waterford

The Shannonsiders will be drawn with a team from Seed 1, Seed 3 and Seed 4 in their group. Limerick's place in the Tailteann Cup was confirmed when they suffered 0-24 to 0-13 defeat to Cork in the Munster SFC quarter-final.

The Tailteann Cup consists of teams from Division 3 and 4, Westmeath who were relegated from Division 2 and teams who didn't reach their provincial finals. 

Teams that finish top of their groups will advance directly into the quarter-finals. The four teams that finish second along with the three third-placed teams with the best record and New York compete in the preliminary quarter-finals. 

Jimmy Lee's side will be looking to build on their impressive during the Allianz Football League. Limerick were crowned Division 4 champions earlier this year. 

In the last two years, Limerick have reached the quarter-finals in the Tailteann Cup. 

Tailteann Cup fixtures: 

May 10-11: Round 1: Seed 1 v Seed 3; Seed 2 v Seed 4

May 17-18: Round 2: Seed 3 v Seed 2; Seed 4 v Seed 1

May 31 - June 1: Round 3: Seed 1 v Seed 2; Seed 3 v Seed 4 (Neutral)

June 7-8: Preliminary Quarter-Finals

June 14-15: Quarter-Finals

June 21-22: Semi-Finals

Saturday July 12: Final
