LIMERICK senior footballers switch their focus to the start of the Tailteann Cup next month after bowing out of the Munster championship at the hands of Cork on Saturday evening.

Recent Allianz Football League Division 4 winners Limerick suffered a 0-24 to 0-13 quarter-final defeat to Cork at the TÚS Gaelic Grounds.

Limerick played 45 minutes of the game with 14 players after Seán Clancy was dismissed having picked up two yellow cards.
Limerick were playing for the fourth successive weekend.

Limerick manager Jimmy Lee said: “The lads went to the bitter end and they worked their socks off. At times you wouldn't even think there were 14 out there, you would think there was 15. We can never ask any more of them young lads, especially week four.

“We have a lot of knocks and bruises and we need to get them right. The Tailteann Cup is where it is at. We will focus hard at it. I think the first game is around the 11th or 12th of May. Look, that will be the focus from here on.

“We need to allow time for the lads to recharge the batteries. We will take time out as well to do that. We have a plan set out as a management team and we will go after that plan then. We are making progress, there is no doubting that. I would be very happy with the entire squad, the way they are working at it, the way the management team are working at it.

“What happened out there tonight is probably a frustration in terms of if we were 15 v 15 we were confident. But, look, there is a plan in place, we'll focus on the Tailteann, we'll wait for the draw and see the hand of cards we are dealt and we will go from there.”
