Limerick senior football championship reaches critical stage

THE final round robin games of the Irish Wire Products Ltd County Senior Football Championship take place this weekend with crucial fixtures for teams battling to get into the knock-out stages of the competition.  

In group one of the senior football championship Mungret St Paul's remain top of the table with four wins out of four, most recently a clinical 4-8 to 0-6 victory over Ballylanders. They now face St Kieran's this Saturday at 5pm in Sean Finn Park, Rathkeale. Regardless of the result of this game, Mungret are straight though to the semi-finals on the weekend of October 19. 

Behind Mungret St Paul's sits Adare, who have three wins and one loss in the championship so far. In the last round of the campaign Adare proved too strong for St Kieran's as they face third place Na Piarsaigh in this Saturday's fixture in Ballybrown at 5pm. This result will determine the quarter-final match-ups which will take place on the weekend of September 28. 

In the final game of group one Monaleen will take on Ballylanders in Kilteely at 5pm on Saturday afternoon. Monaleen are currently at the bottom of the table at the moment with 'Landers' just above them, meaning the winner of this game will avoid a relegation battle against Ballysteen, who are bottom of group two.

Newcastle West are straight into the semi's from the second group of the senior football championship after topping their group. They will play a dead rubber game against Ballysteen this Friday evening in Mick Neville Park at 7:30pm. 

Elsewhere in that group an exciting tie between Fr Casey's and Galtee Gaels will take place on Friday as well in LIT GAA Pitch at 7:30pm. The Abbeyfeale-based side are currently in second position with Galtee hot in their heels in third position. 

The final game of that group is between Oola and Kildimo-Pallaskenry in Claughaun GAA on Saturday at 5pm. Both teams have kept their senior football status for next season regardless of this weekends result.
