Limerick primed for trip to Sligo in Tailteann Cup

THE Limerick footballers will play Sligo in the quarter-final of the Tailteann Cup on Saturday June 15 at Markievicz Park at 5pm.

Limerick have recorded three victories in the Tailteann Cup against Offaly and London in their group games and against Tipperary on Saturday in the preliminary quarter-final winning 1-18 to 1-10.

It is the first time the Treaty County have registered three wins in-a-row since 2020.

Jimmy Lee was happy to see his side advance to the last eight of the Tailteann Cup.

“I'm happy enough, three wins on the trot. There's a lot we can do. In fairness, we are scoring more. There's a lot of positives there. To be fair, to these lads they've worked hard since November and it hasn't always gone their way.”

“They've worked hard and they've stuck at it and it's credit to themselves really. These three wins are about them. We had people being critical of them but in fairness they kept believing and that's all you can ever ask of them. Their young lads at the end of the day.”

Danny Neville impressed for Limerick against Tipperary last weekend. Neville was on target with four points from play.

Their opponents Sligo come into this clash on the back having recorded victories over Wexford and Tippeary and played out a draw against Antrim.

Sligo topped group two of the Tailteann Cup and have been rewarded with a home quarter-final as a result.

Sligo met Limerick earlier this year in Division 3 of the National league where the Yeats County won 1-12 to 0-10.

Wicklow take on Down, Kildare meet Laois and Fermanagh take on Antrim in the three other quarter-finals of the Tailteann Cup. The semi-finals take place in Croke Park on June 23.
