A football blitz will take place at the end of the month in memory of former Limerick footballer Emma McGuire.
Emma, who won an All-Ireland Junior title with Limerick in 2010, was in her early thirties when she passed away after an illness under the care of Milford Care Centre two years ago.
A warrior both on and off the field, Emma's friends and family wanted to do something to commemorate her life whilst also raising funds for Milford Care Centre.
Síle Moynihan, a close friend of Emma's, spoke to the Limerick Leader about how the idea for the blitz came about.
"At the start of this year myself, Ingrid Laffan, Bríd Madigan, Emma's brother Daniel and her sister Joanne decided we wanted to do something for Milford Hospice and I suppose our connection to Emma was through football with St Ailbes so we decided that a football blitz would be a good idea," she said.
She played 7s football in Australia and there was big blitz over there that she loved so we thought it would be nice to get a mix of all of that as a way to remember her and to also raise money for Milford Hospice who took such great care of her," she added.
Ten teams will be taking part on the day for the first of what Síle is hoping will be many tournaments held for Emma and the Milford Hospice. The tournament will take place at Ballybricken/Bohermore GAA grounds on the Saturday, July 26.
"There's ten teams entered at the moment, we are keeping it invitational this year. We're hoping it will be an annual event but we just wanted to make it invitational this year so that we could get a handle on it so there's ten teams, two groups of five and it will be on in Ballybricken/Bohermore," Síle said.
Síle also paid tribute to Emma and those at the Milford Care Centre, who took such good care of her close friend.
"Emma is a massive loss to our lives. We would've met her through football and anyone who has ever met her on the football  field knows how strong and resilient she was."
She was a brilliant person, a great friend and she's a huge loss to everyone in the community," she said.
"We probably don't know how lucky we are in Limerick to have the Milford Care Hospice on our doorstep."
"I suppose you don't realise what they do until you are in that scenario and obviously the care and support they gave to Emma was unbelievable but the care they gave to everyone around and looking after the people visiting."
"It's just an unbelievable service and we are so lucky to have that in Limerick," Síle concluded.
Event organisers will also be running a programme on the day and are looking for families and businesses' to sponsor ads for €100. If anyone is interested they can email emmas7sfootball@gmail.com.
