TUS Gaelic Grounds set for upgrade works in 2025
LIMERICK GAA officials are to explore the possibility of updating the TUS Gaelic Grounds floodlights in the new year.
In his report to Annual Convention, Limerick GAA secretary Mike O’Riordan, who is stadium director of the Ennis Road venue, outlined how “works to be carried out next year will be signed off at the next Limerick Gaelic Grounds Ltd meeting”.
“Only remedial works were carried out this year. We are looking at replacing the floodlighting in 2025 and progressing with a revised green approach towards the stadium,” he outlined.
He accepted the county grounds “had a quieter-season this year”.
“The National Hurling League fixtures were scheduled elsewhere due to the pitch surface getting damaged after the Munster Club Football Final in December (2023) played in horrific conditions. The pitch was reseeded and ready for the Munster Senior Hurling Championship fixtures against Tipperary and Waterford.
The TUS Gaelic Grounds also hosted the U20 and minor hurling provincial championship finals, but then came another setback.
“In August CWB (event management company) produced a weekend of entertainment with The Whistling Donkeys on the Friday evening, various dance artists on the Saturday evening and the Two Johnnies on Sunday,” recalled O’Riordan.
He said the three day festival was a “hugely successful weekend”.
“While it was successful it did take its toll on the pitch. A lot of work got it back to top condition for the county senior and premier intermediate hurling finals at the end of October and subsequently the Munster Senior Hurling Club quarter-final.”
Next up for the TUS Gaelic Grounds will be the Allianz Hurling League.
“In the spring it will host four Allianz National Hurling League fixtures against Tipperary, Clare, Galway and Wexford. In the championship All-Ireland finalists Cork and Clare will travel to the TUS Gaelic Grounds in late spring, early summer.”
And, further concerts are also planned for 2025.
“During the quiet August period UB40 and Peter André will entertain at the venue with additional artists to be confirmed,” outlined the Limerick GAA secretary in his annual end of year report to the club delegates of the county.
