Limerick players help New York hurlers to Connacht League title

LIMERICK hurlers have landed some more silverware with five locals being part of the New York team that earned victory over Mayo in the Connacht League Final.

Doon's Ger and Brian McPartland, Monaleen's Cathal Crowe and David Pond, as well as Ahane's Conor Morrissey were part of the New York panel that earned victory. Ger McPartland scored a second half goal in the 2-25 to 2-12 win.

The McPartland brothers were part of the panel throughout the campaign but Crowe, Pond and Morrissey were named in the squad for the latter stages.

Ger McPartland started each game for New York, proving to be a key cog and frequent goalscorer throughout the competition. Brian was a used sub in their quarter-final win over Leitrim and semi-final win over a Galway development side.

The McPartland's were born in New York to Doon parents but had played all their club hurling with the east Limerick club before going back to the 'Big Apple'.

Pond and Crow both played hurling and football with Monaleen. Pond has been in New York for a number of years but Crowe only moved there last year.

Morrissey has played senior hurling with Ahane. His younger brother Kevin was part of the clubs' junior and U21 panels in 2023.
