AT THE heart of Limerick Show is family - those involved in making the show the success it is every year and families that will attend the 93rd event this Sunday in the racecourse.
The love of Limerick Show is in 20-month-old Geoffrey Power’s genes. He will be the third generation of the Powers, from Grange, to take part in the Limerick Show.

Dad, Richard Power, show vice-chairman, would have ridden in pony classes in the 1990s while grandfather Dickie, ex-show chairman, would have ridden in classes in the early 60s when the show was in the old Limerick Racecourse in Greenpark in the city.
Up to 15,000 visitors, 1,000 competitors and 150 trade exhibitors will descend on Limerick Racecourse in Patrickswell to experience the day which aims to bring the people of Limerick city and county together.
Limerick Show president Leo Walsh can't wait to welcome people back to experience the new and improved show for 2025.
“Limerick Show has always been about showcasing the very best of Limerick and surrounding areas and we hope that this year, more than ever, people will come out and support local farmers, producers and exhibitors on display.” Mr Walsh expressed his thanks to local company AMCS who have once again been named as lead sponsor.
“Having a connection with a strong Limerick-based company was important for us and AMCS is a great example of a Limerick success story.
“Limerick Show has been a huge part of the Limerick social calendar since the first show took place in 1929. This tradition lives on today and we’re delighted that AMCS is supporting us and helping keep the tradition alive.“ Just like young Geoffrey Power (pictured below).
Back again this year is the careers village. Whether you are looking to kick start your career or seeking a new challenge, it allows people to chat with some of the biggest employers in the world, located here in Limerick.
Another feature is Limerick City and County Council's sustainability marquee, also the LEO marquee showcasing local crafts and food produce.
Some of the finest livestock in the country of all breeds will be on show (see page 13) not to mention sheep and poultry. There will also be sheep shearing displays.
Limerick Show is renowned for showcasing the best of Irish horse breeding, this year is no exception, New for this year is the TIHA Colt Championship which is one of the special features of Irish breeding presented by the Traditional Irish Horse Association. This incorporates the famous Limerick Lady and Matron Championships.
In addition to the diverse agricultural programme, there are lots of new family-friendly additions. The Kids Zone, sponsored by Centra Limerick, is bigger and better with free entertainment including amusements, magic show, pony rides and an animal farm. If the little ones get tired, they can hop on the kiddies train and catch a lift around the show grounds. Children under 16 get free entry.
Enjoy live music and dancing from 1pm to 3pm with The Barry Doyle band Aka Farmer Dan and Dermot Lyons from 3pm to 5pm.
Celia Holman Lee is hosting a must-see fashion show at 3pm. The dog show at 1pm is always a big attraction. Visitors can shop to their heart’s content at the indoor and outdoor retail village, artisan food stalls, farm machinery and more. Other attractions include show jumping, arts and craft display, and horticulture exhibits.
Complimentary bus rides depart from TUS Gaelic Grounds at 11am/1pm, Parkway Shopping Centre at 11.30am/1:30pm and Crescent Shopping Centre at 12pm/2pm. Return journeys start from 3pm.
